What's New

New Added || Disagree : At The End Of The Day

It's really nice to see our local bands receive the airplay and recognition they truly deserve. And why not? We have a sea of talent who are young, energetic and not afraid to try new things. Like most local bands, no one really know the story of the uphill battle these bands go through before they receive any recognition for their work. Good for us they decided to march on too, otherwise we would never have got the chance to check out this album. The album features some decent tunes and at times you would think that you're listening to an international band. Now, that's really quite impressive. On the downside, most of the songs sound identical, which can make the album sound a tad boring after a while. To buy or not to buy? Not a bad effort from the band. We like the fact that our local boys are rocking the airwaves. But we also feel that there's much room for improvement as far as the lyrics are concerned. That's probably the next step for most of local artists out there. But hey, one step at a time. We like Disagree, we like their attitude towards music and we're really looking forward to their next album....provided they don't hate us and threaten to take any form of legal action after reading this review....

Request || Mael : Lain Hidup

MAEL is no stranger to heavy metal fans out there. This former XPDC stalwart is setting out with his solo album, "Lain Hidup".

Produced and distributed by EMI Malaysia, this is an absolute feast for Mael diehards. Track such as Lain Hidup, Apa Erti Semua, Sudah Sampai Sini are for the fans that have been waiting for Mael’s solo album for years. And for those who still like to listen to dependable rock ballads, there are Raja Kertas, Teman and Kabus Semalam to quench your thirst.

Of particular note is the track Pelesit Mata Sebelah that has thrash and speed metal elements in it – it’s something to look out for in this album. On the top of it, catchy Lain Hidup is a great composition that will get you down .

New Added || Hazami : Kata

Hazami’s major claim to fame started out a few years ago with his Malay rendition of the Winter Sonata theme from the popular Korean love drama. Although most will remember him for Sonata Musim Salju, he is determined to show that he is more than just a one-hit-wonder, which is evident in Kata, his second album.

While the album is oozing with ballads, there are three songs that we took a particular fancy for. Kata is the first single from the album, co-written by Hazami, Tris and album producer Arab - catchy with black R&B influences. Sehebat Kamu is sassy and slick, co-written by Hazami and Reshmonu (Resh even raps on it). Lastly, Diari Cinta Kita (JFK & Omar Khan) is euphonious and romantic – it reminds us so much of ME, an Indonesian male group popular in the early 1990s who made memorable hits such as Inikah Cinta (which was eventually covered by Sheila Majid in 2003).

Hazami is not without his share of covers though – for one, Dalam Diam is the Malay version of a song by Korean band G.O.D. (He seems to have a fondness for Korea, doesn’t he?) Sejati on the other hand is originally by Malay rock band Wings (written by M. Nasir). It’s interesting to listen to Hazami’s version of Sejati, much mellower than the original. And we have to say, the strings accompanying this slow rock song is very old school ala RTM orchestra-style!

To buy or not to buy? This album deserves attention and is solid, thanks to Hazami’s 11-some years of vocal teaching and experience of making music. It was crafted with a lot of thought and time put in and the results are far from disappointing. If you’re looking for a romantic Malay pop album with substance, then take Hazami’s Kata home with you.
