The third studio album by singer-songwriter Jason Mraz was originally released as three online-only four-track EPs throughout the spring of 2008, hence the odd punctuation of the album's full title: WE SING. WE DANCE. WE STEAL THINGS. Although it was originally made available in a piecemeal fashion, the entire 12-track album was recorded as a whole, and it flows naturally from the smooth pop-rock of the opener, "Make It Mine," to the extended jam workout of the closing, "Beautiful Mess." Guest spots by James Morrison on "Details in the Fabric" and Colbie Caillat on the flirty single "Lucky" are standouts, as is the shimmering first single, "I'm Yours." Overall, Mraz's tuneful songcraft is on display throughout the album.
Jason Mraz isn't so much releasing his upcoming effort as he is rolling it out. "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." will be available as trio of EPs, with each to hit shelves on different dates.
"We Sing" and "We Dance" will be released March 18 and April 15, respectively, while the third EP is merely bundled with the other two when the full-length debuts May 20. Purchased separately, the individual sets will come packaged with bonus alternate versions of the songs.
"We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." features Mraz' new single "I'm Yours," which appeared originally as a demo on an EP that accompanied his last album, "Mr. A-Z." The track resonated with fans and bred more than 300 user-generated music videos online. Mraz also tapped fellow songwriters James Morrison and Colbie Caillat to contribute to the album.
Mraz will perform Feb. 28 for iTunes Live: London Sessions in England in support of the album. Additionally, he's in the midst of planning a North American tour and already has dates slated for Europe, Australia and Asia.
"We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." is the follow-up to 2005's "Mr. A-Z," which debuted at No. 5 in 2005.

IT'S not all fun and games for rock group Estranged when it comes to its second album.
After a successful outing with hit song Itu Kamu (which won Song of The Year at Anugerah Juara Lagu and Most Popular Group at Anugerah Planet), the band is back — with some changes.
Comprising Rich on vocals, Hanafi (guitars), Din (guitars) and Andy (drums), its second offering is called Remain Unknown.
“This album showcases our maturity. We experimented with sounds including heavier rifts. Andy, meanwhile, showcased new drumming methods. Rich is showing progress vocally, displaying depths and diversity in tone,” said Din.
Songs such as Yang Pernah and Aurora mark the band’s departure from its sound in Itu Kamu.
“We want to sound more progressive. We did worryabout fans’ reaction but we also do not want to stagnate,” said Rich.
“Most importantly, we want people to like us as a band and not for the song Itu Kamu,” said Andy,
Despite music pundits predicting a full-fledged Malay album from the boys, Estranged has delivered an English-dominated album.
The album consists of eight English tracks, including This World, In No Time and Enjoy the Ride and five Malay tracks including Aurora and Masa.
“We have always catered to the English market. We don’t want to sing only Malay songs just because of one hit song,” said Andy.
The lyrics cover serious subjects such as global warming, political mishaps and social deterioration.
“This World highlights the deterioration of our eco-system while Tarikh Tutup deals with child kidnapping,” Rich.
The album cover depicts the struggle faced by the Orang Asli in preserving their homeland.
“Our photographer was inspired by the story of the Temuan tribe. The background of the cover shows land belonging to them which has been turned into a dam,” said Hanafi.
As one of the leading rock bands in Malaysia, Estranged has its their say in regards to the issue of 90:10.
“We can’t censure songs. In fact, we need foreign songs (Indonesian songs) for competition. It is essential to have an open market so that we know the ins and outs of the music scene,” said Din.
“We do have a lot of talented singers and bands. Let’s invest in them and give them exposure, “ he added.
Estranged was among the few local bands to perform at the Soundrenaline 2008, the biggest music festival in Indonesia, recently.
“We were treated well. Both fans and organisers were pleased with our performance, “ said Andy, referring to their shows in Medan and Pekan Baru.
Due to their successful first outing at the festival, the boys might be on board for the coming year.
“The organisers did say something about us returning to the festival. But we will have to wait and see, “ said Andy.

Life after fronting one of the biggest rock bands in Indonesian history has proven surprisingly good to ARI LASSO. Instead of being haunted by the specter of Dewa 19, the multiplatinum group he joined back in 1992, the singer gradually eased into a superstardom of his own. "David Archuleta" is the new debut album from 17-year old American Idol season 7 runner-up, David Archuleta. Let me first say that I have never watched a previous season of American Idol. I HATE reality TV, yet I tuned in for season 7 because I was bored since the writer's strike was happening at the time. Who was I to know that a humble Utah teen would make me watch an entire season of the very show that I swore I would never watch. I have loved and adored David since the first note he sang on "Heaven" during Hollywood week on Idol. I have never felt so emotionally connected to a celebrity before. Actually I do not even consider David a celebrity. His humble nature proves he is above that. His voice, nature, and the inspiring performances he has given to all us fans is what makes us love him
The Salt Lake Tribune has given it a B- and said that the album focuses on David’s voice instead of collaborations with artists like Timbaland.
Entertainment Weekly was not as kind. With a grade of C+, citing generic writing and a lack of passion on romantic songs as the main reasons for the low evaluation.
I hope that the album does well and doesn’t discourage him because I really think that, under the right circumstances and with the right writers, David could be a huge star. I think he has one of the best voices to ever grace the Idol stage and he’s definitely got the right look.

After a two-and-a-half year hiatus, Sheila on 7 are scheduled to release their six album, titled Menentukan Arah (Choosing the direction), after Ramadan.
"Everything is finished and we will launch the album after the fasting month", Erros Chandra, guitarist of the Yogyakarta-based band, told The Jakarta Post on the sidelines of a Ramadan concert in Surabaya over the weekend.
Erros said the album, which will include ten songs, was suppose to be released in July but was postponed until after Ramadan to allow time to add finishing touches.
"We want the best for our fans and also we have to concentrate on our invitations during Ramadan.
"The genre of the new album will be similar to that of the first album, which is pop. And maybe even more relaxed but still talking about love," said Erros.

Zahid: After a three-year wait, Ahmad Zahid Baharuddin (AF winner in 2004) recently released his second album titled Baru ’08 and is currently dabbling in songwriting for other singers such as Bob AF2 and Syawal.
Zahid has also ventured into a couple of projects with his sister, including setting up a kindergarten and a wedding planning business.
Comprising eight songs (mostly ballads infused with R&B and rock) the long-awaited album, Zahid Baru '08, sees a detour from Zahid’s image as a hip hop/pop artiste.
Baru ‘08 is produced by Maestro Records and distributed by EMI (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
It includes ballads such as Hadir Dirimu (self-composed by Zahid ) and Cintaku Untukmu (written by Ajai).
According to Zahid, the new album aims to correct the misconception that he is a hip-hop/pop artiste.
“I realise that people know me as a hip-hop artiste,” he said.
To further prove his point, he said songs which he performed at the Akademi Fantasia 2 concerts, in which he emerged winner for the show’s second season, also included pop.
“One of the songs that I sang in the final of AF2 was a ballad, so I hope people can see that I’m capable of singing other types of songs.”
Other songs in the album include a medley of two numbers Teratai and Istana Menanti, songs made famous by Ramli Sarip and Rahim Maarof respectively.
“I was lucky because the album’s music arrangement was done by Eddie Marzuki, a well-known musician,” said Zahid.
Of the eight songs in the album, two are infused with rock. They are Baru and Mr Automatic, composed by Audi Mok and Azzan Addin, respectively.
“I needed a change in musical direction for the new album. For Baru ‘08, I got to choose the composers I wanted to work with. Since I have always wanted to work with Ajai, who is famous for writing ballads, I decided to record his song.
“I try to understand what fans want. I notice that people enjoy listening to ballads, so I want to cater to that market. Besides, it will make me more marketable because artistes who sing ballads are in demand for evening and corporate shows,” he added.
During the interview, Zahid was also teased about his friendship with fellow artiste and singer, Nita, a finalist on Malaysian Idol.
“I’m comfortable with her. We understand each other well,” he said, refusing to elaborate.
When prodded further, he said: “For now, we prefer to stay as close friends, and an announcement will be made when the time comes.”
Fair enough.

Aisha, a German Turkish student in Cairo haunts Fahri with her beautiful eyes. Following an incident on the metro where Fahri defends her against narrow minded bigoted Muslims, both immediately develop feelings for each other.
As the story unravels, the protagonist makes the audience face the daunting decisions he himself faces, and forces us to marvel at his undying loyalty to the true ideals of Islam as he ultimately makes the choice of a lifetime.

Suki Low's debut album, "SUKI - Finally | Akhirnya" is launched on June 19, 2008. One In A Million winner Suki Low hasn’t been making much of a ripple in the last two years, but her recent win at the AIM 2008 awards and a newly-released album, Finally, prove that she is far from forgotten.
Nonetheless, the 19-year-old lass from Seremban proved that she still had her foot in the door of the local entertainment industry when she won the Most Promising Artiste award at AIM 2008.
Though busy putting the finishing touches to her album last month, Suki consented to an interview.
“I’m so sorry for the delay,” she immediately apologised before flopping into her seat, arriving late for this interview at the KLCC. Thankfully, she had no airs about her, and proceeded to talk about how busy she’s been, working on her long-overdue album.
The album, aptly titled Finally was officially launched yesterday.
Simple life
To many, she is the girl who won the first OIAM award, the teenager from SMK King George V, Seremban, who juggled studying for her SPM and the competition, as well as Pepsi’s latest ambassador.
The Sagittarian is pretty much a “laidback” girl who is devoted to her family, loves shoes and bags (“I shop for things that I really need, but I won’t say no if I could have a different bag every day of the week,” she giggles) and whose life before OIAM revolved around singing in the school choir, teaching music and participating in talent shows.
While she admits that she “never, ever” imagined being where she is today, she recounts with honesty the path she had taken in life in the hopes of being a performer someday.
“Winning OIAM is a dream come true for me, especially when my main intention of joining OIAM was to meet Paul Moss and hear his critique on my singing,” said Suki who speaks fluent Mandarin, Cantonese, English and Malay.
“Having said that, I have been working for this all along. I love being on stage, and I took whatever chance I got to go on stage and perform especially whenever there was a visiting artiste in Seremban. That’s how people would remember me. Still, if I hadn’t won OIAM, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said the former Astro’s Kids Talent Quest 2002 winner.
She attributes her talent to her family, particularly her grandmother whose love of singing rivals her own.
“I remember since I was in kindergarten, my grandma was always singing away on the karaoke. She loved singing! Both my parents are very musical too.”
What’s most refreshing is the respect and gratitude Suki has for her florist mother and businessman father.
“They really motivated me. They advised me that if I wanted to do something, I must go all the way and not do a half-baked job. That’s why I put my heart and soul into OIAM.
“My family really supports me; they make me feel complete.”

I've been an Alanis fan since Jagged Little Pill in college. I identified with her music then, and I identify with Flavors of Entanglement today. She's come a long way since then, and yes, her music has changed, but I'm not the same person I was then, either. I found this to be an enjoyable listen from start to finish, and I'd have to say my favorites are "Not as We" and "Torch."
Flavors of Entanglement lyrics and music, expresses with such heart felt emotions that you feel them too. With the help of her producer, Guy Sigsworth, Alanis has put together a sole full album in Flavors of Entanglement. These songs have more edge and grit than anything she's released since the '90s. I have waited a long time for this album but it has proven to be worth the wait. . Alanis has repeatedly said in interviews that she had hit "rock bottom" upon her engagement ending to actor Ryan Reynolds and how that is reflected in her album "Flavors of Entanglement". The album certainly reflects death - in this case, death of a relationship. Never hiding her bruises, she moves forward in her career by releasing this soul full album. My favorite tracks were, "Citizen of the Planet" and "Straitjacket". I felt these songs were telling a story from heart. Morissette proves herself yet again, to be a poet with lyrics for this generation's contemporary singer and songwriters. She invites listeners along on her journey of her life as she helps them gain feelings of themselves. She is both enlighting as well as entertaining. I think this album proves beyond a doubt that Alanis Morissette is a voice to be reckoned with. I am eagerly waiting for her next album.

Peanut Butter is still a new band which was only formed recently. The vocalist, Iqram had a song 'Emosi Cinta' which the guitarist, Sam later produced, arranged and played the music instruments the song for Iqram as a fun side project. The song soon found its way into radio stations such as ERA FM, XFresh FM and Suria FM.
It is only after that, that they decided to form a band. They called in Amy the bassist and Din the drummer for a jam session and so, Peanut Butter was born. Amy is an experienced bassist playing for many music competitions, Din the drummer has played plenty of gigs in Johor and Sam, besides doing music production, has been performing top 40 songs in bars and restaurants and was one of the bands for the Guiness road tour for most of 2007.
In February 2008, Peanut Butter sign in a contract with Gizmo Records where they met here in myspace. But then, Ismail, the manager advice to change the band name because people will get confius. So, they decided to choose The Peanuts as their band name and Peanutbutter is a nickname for them who support The Peanuts.
Then later, they found Johan. Johan approach himself to be interview and join the band. He is the youngest among all.And from there,a new faces and commited young tallents are born together fighting to support Malaysian music scene.

Malique, as a musician is a perfectionist in every sense of the word. This can be seen in the Too Phat recordings and I have personally witnessed the man’s work ethic. Therefore, it comes to no surprise that when he decided to make a solo album, it would result in something monumental no less.
This two disc album contains 20 tracks and features Malique touching on topics ranging from love, life, Kuala Lumpur and everything close to his heart. The first track released to the public, Kau Yang Punya is a definite radio winner and I hear it is getting mad radio play in Indonesia. Another standout track is Mantera Beradu featuring the legendary M. Nasir. I feel M. Nasir did not compromise his style to fit with a hip-hop vibe, and the result was a perfect mix of hip-hop and traditional malay folk music. The album’s namesake track, OK, which features Cat Fabuloso, and KL Streets featuring Lah are also notable songs.
I personally enjoyed Pergi Jauh and Layu. This album is generally defined by the honesty of its lyrics, the smooth delivery and clever wordplay so representative of Malique and the simplicity of the message in each track. Also, many talented vocalists lent their gifts to this albums production i.e. Elvira, Najwa, Zaf and Lah.
There’s no need to hesitate. OK is definitely better than OK.

Lifehouse - Full Album - Who We Are 2007
Stylistically, Who We Are isn't much different from their previous chapters. The project's initial single, "First Time," is an upbeat love song, sort of a "'Hanging By A Moment' meets 'Spin'" with more of a distinct romantic angle like "You And Me." The album's opener "Disarray" is a Lifehouse signature melancholy, guitar-driven anthem about pushing through uncertainty with a hopeful, upbeat chorus. Most of the tracks on Who We Are once again deal with brokenness and relationships, with a great deal of ambiguity. While "Learn You Inside Out" is a wonderful love ballad Wade most likely penned for his wife, songs like the strangely bitter but nicely aggressive "The Joke" and "Bridges," a tragic rock anthem that puts the blame on both parties involved in a love lost, are likely to leave the listener interested in discovering from where these songs were spawned. Spiritual themes run amuck as cryptically as they do clearly, with "Make Me Over" serving as a possible cry for God to create something new within the songwriter, and the closer, "Storm," a vivid picture of finding rescue in the arms of Jesus during the storms of life ("If I could just see you / everything would be all right / If I'd see you / This darkness would turn to light / And I will walk on water / And you will catch me if I fall / And I will get lost in your eyes").
While Who We Are is arguably more of the same for Lifehouse, there is plenty of accented new flavors among the tracks to keep things fresh and interesting. From a more gravelly vocal delivery from Wade on "The Joke," the power ballad "Whatever It Takes," the slight throwback feel of "Easier To Be," or the moody less-is-more finale, "Storm," Who We Are portrays enough growth in songwriting and artistry to keep Lifehouse a band well worth following.

Aizat Amdan of Akademi Fantasia season 5 is back in the music scene with a chart-topping song and a debut album. RADIN SRI GHAZALI writes.
LET’S hail Aizat Amdan as the comeback kid. Ever since he gave his winning performance of Anuar Zain’s number Perpisahan during Akademi Fantasia season 5, Aizat has proven himself a talented young gun with a bright future.
Nevertheless, the 19-year-old ended up in the eighth spot of the competition.
After a year of “recuperation” and “soul seeking”, he’s back with a bang.
With the song Hanya Kau Yang Mampu, which is currently at the top of the local charts, Aizat is proof that you don’t have to be a winner in order to have a winning song.
“I do not want to be too confident. I am just happy to be back,” he said regarding his return to the music industry.
“Hanya Kau Yang Mampu has given me a boost of confidence and people are receptive of me as a singer/composer,” said the Pahang-born.
Indonesian composer Taufik wrote Aizat’s current hit single and Sahabat, both in his EP.
“He is my cousin’s friend and rather new in the industry. He gave me his demo and I heard both his songs. I was taken up with their strong melodies,” said Aizat.
“Well, I am aware that I may not be in the running for any awards including Anugerah Juara Lagu or Anugerah Industri Muzik but I am happy that Hanya Kau Yang Mampu has aided me in putting my music out there,” he said.
The lad, who just finished shooting the music video to Hanya Kau Yang Mampu, is set to release his second single entitled Fikirlah soon.
“That is purely a Malaysian track. Our compositions are as strong as those of Indonesians.”
Aizat’s debut album Percubaan Pertama showcases his ability to compose songs.
Unlike other AF graduates, Aizat composed three out of eight songs on the album including Lagu Kita and Selamat Tinggal Akhirnya.
“I love the creative process. I have a say in the music arrangement and that, for me, is crucial.”
Aizat also gets help from his older brothers Anas and Amar.
“Most of the love songs are written by my brothers. They have a lot of experience in the ‘love department’ while I have none,” he joked.
“I am thrilled that fans and music critics have been giving me good reviews. I am glad that my team’s efforts are paying off.”
The album is co-produced by his own company, Kasi Gegar Entertainment, and Universal Music Malaysia.
As to why there are only eight songs in the album, Aizat said, “I go for quality rather than quantity.”

"Sepi" OST is the second collaboration between Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Primeworks Studios (formerly known as Grand Brilliance Sdn Bhd). They are optimistic that the all tracks in "Sepi" will be well received by the public soon. Speaking at the launch event at GSC 1Utama on Tuesday, Ahmad Puad Onah from Grand Brilliance expressed his confidence with the soundtrack album as most of the tracks are catchy, pleasing and inspired by the movie's theme.
The soundtrack, which is due to be released on the same date as the movie's opening on 26 June, comprises 15 melodious tracks from a variety of popular artistes in Malaysia and Indonesia. Several hit tracks include "Aku Bukan Untukmu" by duo Lah and Zaf, "Jatuh Cinta" by Pacai, "Kembang Perawan" by Gita Gunawan and "Puisi Sepi" by singer-actress Baizura Kahar who is also the lead in the film.
The main tune from "Sepi" sung by Yuni Shara is once again composed by Indonesian music whiz Melly Goeslaw. Andrian Lim, the Managing Director of Sony BMG Music, believes that like its predecessor "Cinta", the "Sepi" OST can also win the hearts of listeners nationwide.
"Sepi" revolves around three individuals in the city who learn the meaning of love, loss and loneliness in this romantic drama. Adam, a successful young chef, creates confectionery masterpieces for weddings, yet still has to find his own bride. Then there is Sufi, who each day runs miles in an attempt to outrun the memories of his dead wife. Finally, there is Imaan, a young playwright who discovers that theatre is a stage where her past can finally be resolved and her future is unveiled. All three strangers are inevitably linked to a single dramatic moment that transforms their lives forever. The cast includes Afdlin Shauki, Tony Eusoff, Pierre Andre, Eja, Baizura Kahar, Nasha Aziz and Vanida Imran among others.

Audi Mok contributed bubble gum pop song, Mila Bila Cinta and Gila. Another song was contributed by a young composer, Yuriz.

"Ini adalah tanggungjawab saya dan sudah menjadi tanggungjawab saya juga untuk membuktikan bahawa muzik rock yang saya bawakan ini benar-benar bagus," katanya apabila diminta mengulas berhubung jolokan itu.
Bercerita mengenai single terbarunya, Bukti, Fiq berkata, masih terlalu awal untuk meramalkan sambutan yang bakal diterimya menerusi lagu berirama rock balada berkenaan.
Bagaimanapun dia berkata, pihak EMI mempunyai strateginya tersendiri untuk memasarkan single terbarunya itu sehinggalah apabila munculnya album sulungnya yang bakal menjengah pasaran, Oktober nanti.

Pop Shuvit recently released their 3rd Studio Album, Freakshow Vol 1: Tales of The Travelling Tunes with the first single of the album being, Freakshow which featured Dandee from Silksounds. Other notable colaborations in this album includes Emmet from Butterfingers, Roshan from K Town Clan, Ras Muhammad and the most notable of them all, Inspectah Deck from the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. Mara Bahaya was from this album which is the 1st single from the Impak Maksima soundtrack. Mara Bahaya has received very high rotation on both hitz.fm & Fly FM and it is one of the crowds favourite.
Being independent, Pop Shuvit believes that there is a need to diversify and take the band to the next level as frontman Moots! pointed out, “That’s the essence of Pop Shuvit, we always do things differently and love taking risks. We want to turn Pop Shuvit into a brand name and to do this we need to branch out and spread our wings be it in music or other facets of urban culture.”
Their debut album Take it & Shuvit broke new ground when their first single Skaters’ Anthem was released exclusively on the Internet and became one of the most downloaded local songs in Malaysian music history. The hype and street buzz from the track caught the ears of ESPN, who in turn licensed the track for use in their Summer X-Games broadcast that hit millions of households worldwide. As further credit to Pop Shuvit, ESPN played their music videos and tracks off the album throughout the duration of competition.
In 2003, Pop Shuvit released Take it & Shuvit in Japan and became the first Malaysian band to hit the music chart in Japan. Halal & Loving It is the band's debut album released under Homegrown Recordings and Universal Malaysia. It was first released in their native Klang Valley and then to neighboring states and finally to other places. The band have changed the cover graphics dramatically since they announced its release but the theme remained the same.Their debut single, "That Day" from their EP Where Is The Mouse?!, broke into the Malaysian Top 10 charts on the Hitz.fm radio station.[2] One Buck Short also wrote the song Christmas Morning for a charity (MusicCanteen Christmas) album. The band was also nominated as the Best Newcomer artist in the first ever Hitz.FM Malaysian English Top 10 awards in 2004.[2]
In 2006, band was nominated for Best Rock and Best Live Act for the Malaysian English Top 10 Awards held on December 10, 2006.[3] The first single of the band's debut album (Halal & Loving It), "Fast Times", had significant airplay on Malaysian English radio. Later over 2007, the band released the singles Kelibat Korupsi, an entirely Malay song about Corruption in Malaysia and 10:04.

YUI's husky voice at the start of CHE.R.RY was innovative. Everyone on whatever forums which was covering YUI was going, "OMG I LOVE YUI'S HUSKY VOICE!". Her creativity sets herself apart from all competition. Ask Ayumi or Koda Kumi to hold a guitar, its definite fial. She writes her own songs, she plays a guitar while singing and she sounds EXACTLY the same live as she does in the studio. But in songs on "I LOVED YESTERDAY" there's like bits, where she needs to sing like, i donno 10 words in one bar instead of like 3-4. Which seemed very rushed instead of being creative.
Imagine yourself, in a concert, YUI's performing. Rolling Star comes on. You will start headbanging despite how non-bogan you are. The whole song is just like the concentration of 5 Red Bull's into a single can. You will get a bloody kick of energy. Pity i didn't see any of it in "I LOVED YESTERDAY", maybe My Generation. But like I said with Good-Bye Days, My Generation doesn't reach the bar that Rolling Star is on.
"I LOVED YESTERDAY" is like HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR's "SAN" for me. A transitional album. But in SAN, i liked it, but not as much as Goover or Gou on Progressive. But ROCK PIT was definitely a breath of fresh air. Hopefully YUI's comes back with a SPECATCULAR album, which puts I LOVED YESTERDAY into the past.
Or maybe its just me, maybe i need to listen to it more, grow into it slowly. But as a first taste, its definitely not her best work. From Me to You and Can't Buy My Love was a great first impression. I fell in love with it. I just don't feel the same. Although i do love My Generation, Namidairo, Love&Truth and at times, Laugh Away. Namely all the singles........
I would like to see someone who doesn't think the same as me, and back it up with a good reason why.

WHEN Anita Sarawak returned home after 19 glittery years at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, one might have expected her to settle down to a quiet existence. But the lady was far from being done.
She is still energetic, still gungho; her skin is flawless and she looks striking for her 53 years. It’s no wonder she is in constant demand as a spokesperson for various clinics.
But first things first. Her telecomedy Ajensi Melor enjoyed two successful seasons (a third might be in the offing this March) and she has just finished filming the telemovie Topeng (Mask).
At 53, grand diva Anita Sarawak is more active than people half her age. She has just signed with Astro for the sixth season of The Anita Talkshow, finished a film, released an album and has been appointed ambassador for YTL Hotels Spa. Come February, Anita will launch her own jewellery line. KEE HUA CHEE can barely keep up with this dynamo.
“Topeng is a psychological thriller with me playing a psychiatrist rooting out the baddies,” purrs the sultry diva, dripping in diamonds and assorted stones.
She waves a red talon at her English husband, whom she appears to be deeply besotted with.” My husband Mahathir Abdullah is the scriptwriter while Rashid Sibir is the director. In Topeng, a guy sees murders being committed in his dreams and it is up to me to sort it out. I hypnotise him and oops, I have revealed too much already. All I can say is that Topeng is very scary with unexpected twists. It is my first telemovie.’’
Moving into another dimension
Anita finished shooting Topeng in eight days with only one day off. She used her day off to launch her first English album in 20 years called Another Dimension.
“Though I sing in many genres, from pop to disco, to rock, R&B and country, this is the first time you will hear me sing in a soft, caressing, almost seductive voice. When you listen to this album, it’s like me standing next to you, singing just for you,” she explains soothingly. “The 10 songs were selected for their lyrics as the voice is dominant, not the accompanying music.’’
At a steep RM48, the CD is hardly a Christmas present I suggest. The lady bristles indignantly. “You can’t expect me to give it away for free!” she protests. “Nothing was sponsored. I was not paid a sen. I even bought the gown I wore on the cover.”
That eye-popper of a gown was hand-sewn by Kam and Ashley of Kapas Couture within a fortnight. The diva met the designing duo at Jewellery Circle’s “20 Most Glamorous Women Gala” earlier this year and was smitten. “The gown was inspired by one worn by Mahathir’s mother in the 1920s,” she says. Kapas’ version is artfully ruched in Thai silk and smothered in Swarovski crystals.

Altimet is the Malaysian Emcee’s Emcee. he is also an acclaimed producer, DJ, songwriter, record label owner and, and most importantly, an entrepreneur.
His career started with the Teh Tarik Crew, who released an EP, 2 albums and a compilation, all independently.
Based on his work with TTC, he was recruited to help make Ahli Fiqir a success, as A&R manager for Powder Records. Their debut album is the most commercially successful debut album for a hiphop act in Malaysia, and together Altimet and AF won the 2006 APM award for Best Album by a Singapore Act.
Currently Altimet is working on his solo project titled ’First Among Equals’, due out in 2007. the single and video titled ’She’/’Sayang, Sayang’ featuring Mawar Berduri is out now.

Chris Brown - Exclusive
Chris Brown is an impressive 16-year-old R&B singer with a lot going for him, including great looks and a terrific voice. On his first CD, CHRIS BROWN, he concentrates on hook-heavy, sexy lyrics and a solid groove that will keep his fans dancing all night long. Influenced by an array of R&B greats including Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, and Aretha Franklin, Chris Brown holds his own over the well-produced tracks.
The world really needs to lay off Chris Brown. Sure, he's talented, confident (which some misconstrue as arrogance) and has a few flaws to his name but he didn't look out of place performing 'Thriller' at last years World Music Awards, and acted his co-stars off the screen for his 15 minutes in Stomp The Yard. His self-titled debut sold more than 3 million copies, and who can forget 'Run It', a song that perpetually played on MTV for weeks on end? In Chris Brown, we have a potential Michael Jackson for this generation. Brown's debut did well, but with Exclusive, he's really sealed the deal as a big player in the genre which is mostly dominated by Justin Timberlake, Usher and the like.
His second album proper is a interesting mix, and is far more honest than anything he's recorded thus far: the songs are a really clear representation of where Chris Brown is going but- on the flipside- not fully what he is capable of. The album leans more towards the R'n'B ballad side of the sound spectrum, and it's a welcome break after the beat-heavy crunk which made up the bulk of his debut (which, die-hard fans, still remain). The real standouts are the songs featuring guest artists, including 'Kiss Kiss', 'Picture Perfect' and the epic finisher 'Down'. It's no mistake that 'Kiss Kiss' currently has a strong hold over the charts, sitting comfortably at number 1, and the producer's have done themselves proud on this album. T-Pain puts in a solid performance, Will.i.am exceeds expectations (after his mediocre solo offering, Songs About Girls) and Kanye West produces and raps on 'Down', a jubilant finish which wraps up the album in a characteristically stylish fashion. The real clincher, though, is 'With You' a song which Rolling Stone correctly highlighted as Irreplaceable volume 2. It's a blatant copy, but Brown and producer Stargate pull it off purely by force of charm. Ironically (given the songs obvious influences) this is the song that really won me over, but as is common with hip-hop albums, few of the remaining songs meet the high standards set by these great songs.

Faizal Tahir - Full Album mp3
Sometimes it takes an epiphany in a form of a reality show, to reveal the true destiny of an artist. Faizal Tahir is one such individual. Formerly from a religious singing group, his ‘true calling’ is a complete 180 degree turn: he is and always has been a rocker at heart. As such, in the 1 in a Million competition, Faizal finally unleashed himself to the Malaysian music industry. Though ultimately did not win the grand prize, his raw talent and gusto is undeniable… proving once and for all that second place is most definitely not the first loser.
His efforts have culminated into the debut album: Aku.Muzik.Kamu. While obviously first billing, the album it is also as much a showcase of the genius that is producer Audi Mok. Co-writing and producing the bulk of the material, the album demonstrates Audi’s prowess as a versatile melody maker bar none. Prime example is the rousing MAHAKARYA CINTA, in my opinion, the front runner of this year’s Anugerah Juara Lagu.
In other tracks, the first single BATU & GOLEK and up-tempo KERNA KAMU is very indicative of Faizal’s brand of radio friendly pop-rock sound. His appreciation of his influences is also apparent in the album; evoking Aerosmith in the majestic anthem AKU PUNYA KAMU and channeling Queen in the thumping LA DA DI DUM (listen carefully for the Taylor Hicks reference!). Meanwhile, songs CUBA and Faizal’s own favorite SAMPAI SYURGA reveals his tender side without ever drifting into outright melancholy (though the inclusion of the delicate ‘Kasih Tercipta’ from the Waris Jari Hantu OST into the album would have been most desirable).
By and large this is a highly listenable album, so much so that it may even convert non-rock genre fans into Faizal’s growing legion of ‘rockensteiners’. And, perhaps more importantly, in his own admission, is that the album is proudly 100% Malaysian made.

Yovie & The Nuno - The Special One
Nampaknya bagi sebahagian artis musik Indonesia, akhir tahun jadi waktu yang tepat untuk berlomba-lomba menerbitkan album baru. Tidak terkecuali group musik ini.
Meskipun ditinggal cabut tiga personilnya, Gail (vokal), Ersta (bass), dan Rere (drum), namun Yovie tetap jalan terus. Ironinya, melihat perubahan nama grup dari Yovie & The Nuno menjadi Yovie & Nuno yang di dahului dengan peluncuran album baru berjudul The Special One dalam minggu ini.
Dengan personil yang sekarang terdiri dari Yovie (keyboard), Dudi (vokal), Diat (gitar), dan Dikta (vokal), dalam album kali ini Yovie & Nuno mengusung 11 lagu baru. Sebagai single andalan pertama, terpilih tembang bertajuk Menjaga Hati. Beberapa lagu lainnya adalah Janji Suci, Dia Milikku, dan Hey.

Rini Idol - AKu tetap milikmu
Ini adalah hasil tangan Rini Wulandari, Pemenang Indonesian Idol 2007. . Apakah album ini mengalamai nasib seperi tiga Idol sebelumnya?
Album yang diberi titel 'AKU TETAP MILIKMU' ini sebenarnya punya kemasan yang lebih baik dibanding album juara idol lainnya. Paling tidak kovernya punya nilai estetika yang cukup enak dipandang. Bagaimana dengan material album dan aranggement nya?
Entah mengapa, aranggemen album-album seperti ini selalu terdengar flat saja. Untung saja karakter vokal Rini cukup kuat dan teknik yang bagus. Single 'Aku Tetap Milikmu' menjadi pertaruhan untuk Rini Idol. Lagu ini menjadi familiar di sebabkan waktu dengan finals Indonesia Idol 2007 lalu, tak terlalu jauh. Sayangnya, meski cukup menyenangkan, lagu ini bukan lagu 'racun' yang bakal jadi euphoria fansnya.
Beberapa lagu bukan lagu baru seperti Jera [Agnes Monica] yang cukup baik dibawakan di panggung, tapi menjadi kehilangan roh di album ini, meskipun tidak bisa dibilang jelek. Tapi karakter Agnes Monica terlalu kuat di track ini. Kemudian ada lagu Cinta [Titiek Puspa] yang juga pernah dibawakan di panggung Spektakuler lalu. Lagu-lagu recycle ini, hanya menambah versi beda saja, tapi tak memberikan aksentuasi yang punya ciri.
Rini justru terdengar menyenangkan di lagu 'Aku Bukan Boneka' ciptaan M Novi Umar s. Tekanan untuk selau membawakan tempo lagu balada, sebenarnya menjadi menjemukkan. Pasalnya, kini Rini kehilangan emosi yang didapatnya dari penonton dan keluarga. DI track 'Aku Bukan Boneka' Rini tampil lepas, riang dan up-beat. Lagu ini 'sangat cheerfull' khas remaja. Range vokalnya yang lebar, membuat lagu ini masih bisa diolah dengan aransemen yang berbeda ketika di panggung misalnya.
Sinergi Rini --yang sedang mempersiapkan diri untuk Asian Idol-- dan Tohpati sebagai aranjer di album ini, cukup berhati-hati dan belum menemukan mix yang pas. Tapi di beberapa lagu balada seperti 'Cinta Telah Memilih' Rini menemukan dimensi penghayatan yang berbeda. Melankolik, tapi harus dicari tanpa pancingan emosi. Lagu ini terasa berat, tapi cukup membuat kita 'meleleh' mendengarnya.
Album perdana Rini Idol ini --entah kapan album keduanya kelak bakal keluar lagi-- bakal diterima dengan renyah oleh Rinicious [ini sebutan fans Rini]. Meski terkesan digarap terburu-buru, Rini punya kemasan dan pilihan lagu yang lebih enak dibanding album idol-idol sebelumnya.

Aku Tetap Milikmu
Muse - Black Holes & Revelations
The limited edition CD also comes with a DVD of Muse’s performance at the Glastonbury festival in 2004, a mammoth of a show that plays like a greatest hits reel—typical festival show, but it just demonstrates perfectly what we mean by a ‘stadium sound’, what oversized melodies and wall of sound means blasted across tens of thousands of jumping heads. Professional and isolated on the huge stage, the trio lets the songs speak for themselves—“New Born”, “Sing For Absolution”, “Muscle Museum”, “Apocalypse Please” (of course it continues)—a mammoth show.
At this point you probably fall into one of these three camps:
1. You like Muse, perhaps somewhat shamefadedly.
2. You hate Muse with a fashionable passion (that you’ve made it this far in this review, well done)
3. You’ve never heard of Muse.
Not such a tricky segmentation. Well, if you’re a #1 you’ll probably enjoy this album—it’s interesting, and entertaining as well. If you’re a #3, well, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Black Holes as an entry-point for determining if you’re a #1 or a #2. Check out Absolution; this new album’s a solid second. If you’re a #2, well, you may just be ignoring a band that’s outgrown its influences, into a really solid, if somewhat theatrical, hard rock band.

Anuar Zain
In the recording industry, where artistes come and go and hit songs a momentary fad, five years would seem like a lifetime. But that is how long a hiatus it took for one of Malaysia's most preeminent crooner to deliver his third solo album. Anuar Zain, having built upon a cult following for his distinct vocal delivery on R&B ballads and a firm favourite among the karaoke crowd, has returned with yet another self entitled (and self funded) album....
Anuar retains his repertoire of romantic and easy listening ballads with a surprising sprinkling of funk. But in a distinct departure from his previous efforts, Anuar has enlisted a significant portion of the production to Indonesian composers which has caused controversy in for supposedly overlooking Malaysian songwriting capabilities. Nevertheless, the body of work produced by these Indonesian composers are deservedly of high quality and should be viewed as a positive challenge for local songwriters.
Complementing the lush orchestral arrangements is the new found maturity in Anuar’s own vocal arrangement: its is more relaxed without sacrificing ‘feel’, and not over sung with just the right amount of ad libbing. This potent combination is displayed in its finest in the hit torch song LELAKI INI (the slight pause before the first verse is genious), the emotive and haunting KETULUSAN HATI (my favorite song in the album), and the understated elegance of I’M THE LUCKY ONE. Meanwhile, songs like TINGGALKAN AKU and HANYA MILIKMU evoke Anuar's 'old style' of singing, while much needed break from the ballad heavy set is provided from the songs KAU BUNGA CINTAKU and JANGAN PERNAH LAGI, with its punchy 70’s inspired horns and backing vocals. If there is any lacking in this album, it is the obvious ommission of the ballad Perpisahan from the Cinta OST.
While this album may not be eligible for many of the categories in next year's AIM awards (expect at least one nod for best male vocal), it is still overall a very satisfying and accomplished album and should be enough to sustain his fans for the next five years.
